Symphony Conductor Dr. Nell Flanders and guest performer Hovia Edwards discuss Songs of the Land, the next performance by ISCS on November 2.

Within the current Idaho State Civic Symphony season, Echos of Time and Place, the performance titled Songs of the Land will be presented on Saturday, November 2nd at the Jensen Grand Concert Hall. This unique performance incorporates music and dance from the Shoshone-Bannock tribes, including the piece Farewell, which was co-composed by Hovia Edwards as a solo Native American flute melody. Hear our KISU conversation with Hovia and Symphony Conductor Dr. Flanders.

Dr. Flanders spoke about how Songs of the Land was conceptualized. Hovia talked about the excerpt from NU NAH-HUP: SACAJAWEA’S STORY, a new opera you’ve co-composed with Justin Ralls. Included in this interview is a short performance from Hovia Edwards on the Native American flute (19:40). Dr. Flanders also talked about the final piece in the performance, Bela Barok’s Concerto for Orchestra.

Songs of the Land will be performed on November 2nd at 7:30 pm at the Jensen Grand Concert Hall at the ISU Performing Arts Building. Tickets are available at ISCSymphony dot org or at the box office at 282-3595.
