Innovating Language Education at ISU

Dean Kandi Turley Ames talks with Global Studies and Languages faculty members Jasun Carr and Eduardo Villalobos about exciting growth in the program, including the addition of the Spanish for Heritage Speakers course starting in the fall.

Guests discuss Spanish 2221, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, starting in the fall. This course for heritage, native, and other speakers of Spanish with intermediate oral proficiency but little or no formal training in the language is a valuable new addition to language studies at ISU. Villalobos, the instructor for the new course, talks about his approach to creating the curriculum and what he hopes to accomplish with the course.

Jasun Carr, Phd served as the Chair, Associate Professor, and Minor Advisor for the Department of Global Studies and Languages until it transitioned to the Global Studies program and languages was moved to the Department of Anthropology and Languages.

José Eduardo Villalobos Graillet, PhD, Assistant Professor, Spanish

Kandi Turley-Ames began her journey at Idaho State University by graduating from ISU with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1990 and a Master of Science in Psychology in 1993. She completed her Ph.D. in Psychology at Washington State University in 1996. She is a graduate of the Higher Education Resource Service for women in higher education administration. Her academic area of expertise includes memory and cognition. She has published numerous papers with colleagues and students on how strategies impact memory and higher cognitive abilities.
