Episode 12: AT EASE! Veterans Magazine published by Devil Doc Publishing with founder and Editor in Chief, Christine Walker.

Christine Walker is the founder and Editor in Chief of AT EASE! Veterans Magazine and Devil Doc Publishing. Christine enlisted as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy during the Operation Desert Shield/Operation Desert Storm era where she rendered medical aid to other service members at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, MCB. Christine’s vision began with her background in publishing; she wanted to create a print magazine that would give a voice to veterans where they share the stories that forged them in the fire and made them who they are today.

In this episode, Christine discusses with Dan her challenges with eating disorders associated with the anxiety she felt from sexual abuse; She explains the terminology of military sexual trauma aka MST, the stigma she experienced with the inappropriate sexual advances from her leaders, supervisiors, and peers that would later be coined “Don’t ask, Don’t tell”. The policies didn’t exist yet; however, the behaviors were very prevalent as she discovered. Christine describes the isolation she felt post military service as she struggled to gain acceptance and recognition from her veteran peers as well as reintegration as a civilian. After “letting go” of her fears of acceptance and realizing her own self-worth, Christine received the confidence to press forward and pave her way to a life full of joyful relationships and meaningful service.

Dan Miller is using his Military Veteran benefits to complete a graduate program at Idaho State University. Dan served gallantly as a Navy Hospital Corpsman in the Fleet Marine Forces. After his honorable discharge, Dan found himself redefined as a Veteran who battled with PTSD, alcoholism, substance abuse, and addiction. Dan found strength in Recovery, enjoys a life worth living, and is pursuing his MBA in Project Management.
