The intention behind this episode is to provide some historical social, political, and economic context to the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) guidelines handed down on July 6th mandating that international students leave the United States if their colleges go online-only in the Fall.
Today, after the episode was recorded, the Trump administration agreed to rescind the guidelines following immediate backlash from 17 states and universities, businesses, and cities across the U.S.
