Don't Call It Jazz: Juneteenth 2024

Host Jonathan Armstrong is proud to host Lenet Neifert for a conversation about Juneteenth and to play a couple of tunes together for this episode of Don’t Call It Jazz. We discuss Lenet’s experience growing up as a Black Woman in Compton, CA, and how she came to live and perform in Pocatello.

Lenet and Jonathan are collaborating for the Idaho Falls Juneteenth Music Festival at the Colonial Theatre in Idaho Falls on Wednesday, June 19th. Doors are open at 6 pm and, the program starts at 7 pm, which features an ISU Commercial Music group featuring Lenet and members from the Idaho Falls Symphony, the Anam Cara Chamber Choir, and the Bright Star Productions Theater Group. The event is free to attend.

Juneteenth is an important American holiday that was mostly centralized in the Black community for over 150 years before entering the full national consciousness in the past few years. It is a celebration of emancipation, freedom, hope, and resilience, but it is also a stark reminder of our brutal history as a nation.

Host of Don't Call it Jazz (DCiJ) on KISU-FM. DCiJ air's twice monthly on Saturday nights at 7:00 pm.
