The Idaho state tree is the Western White Pine. The huge conifer is found in the western U.S. and Canada, but this iconic tree is under threat from everything from logging to bark beetles to white pine blister rust.

Producer Lauren Melink took a deep dive into this tree on Outdoor Idaho with her documentary, "Return of the Giants," which airs Sunday night on Idaho Public Television.

As Senior Producer of our live daily talk show Idaho Matters, I’m able to indulge my love of storytelling and share all kinds of information (I was probably a Town Crier in a past life). My career has allowed me to learn something new everyday and to share that knowledge with all my friends on the radio.
