Bengals Head North for Showdown with the Griz

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State softball continues its 2022 Big Sky Conference campaign this week as the Bengals head north to take on the Montana Grizzlies.

Friday’s double header is set to start at 2:00 PM with game two following. Saturday’s game is set for first pitch at 1:00 PM.

This is the first trip back to Missoula for the Bengals since 2019.

Bengal Bites

Up to Bat – Idaho State softball ranks 1st in the conference in total hits on the season with 277. They also lead in total plate appearances at 1117 and 983 at bats. The Bengals are lead by Rheanne Lewis and Angelica Cano who rank #s 1 and 2 in the conference in hits with 46 and 42 on the season.

Lewis is currently ranked No. 9 in the nation in total hits.

Seeing Double – Cano lead the conference in doubles for the season with 12. As a team, the Bengals have hit 46 doubles so far this season the same as the entirety of the 2021 season.

Getting Away With It – The Bengals have stolen 42 bases this season the most since 2019 and the 2nd highest already in the last two seasons. Rheanne Lewis leads the Big Sky with 17-for-17 stolen bases on the year already.

Strike ‘em Out – The Idaho State pitching staff leads the conference in strikeouts with 244 on the season. Haley Rainey is ranked No. 2 in the conference in strikeouts with 127. The Bengals also have the second-best opposing batting average in the conference, holding opponents to .250 on the year.

Quick Scout – Montana

· The UM Grizzlies are 16-16 on the season with a 4-2 conference record early in the season. They are coming off of a three-game sweep of the Southern Utah Thunderbirds where they set the record for runs in a Big Sky contest in their 23-7 win.

· The Griz have four batters hitting over .300 on the season. #7 Presley Jantzi leads the team hitting .383 on the season with 31 hits. #3 Maygen McGrath leads the team in homeruns with nine for the season. As a team they are hitting .288 average, No. 2 in the conference standings.

· The Griz pitching staff is ranked 5th in the conference standings with a 4.16 ERA. The Bengals are still in 3rd place after last weekend’s series with Weber State.

· The Griz have common wins over San Jose State, Santa Clara, Nevada

· The Griz have common losses against UC Davis and GCU
