Idaho State volleyball wrapped up the 2021 Bengal Invitational on Saturday night. The Bengals struggled valiantly against the very strong University of Texas – El Paso, before falling 3-0 (16-25, 24-26, 19-25).
After dropping the first set 16-25, the Bengals responded in set two. The two teams fought back and forth ferociously with 13 tie scores and four lead changes in the set. 25 points was not enough to determine a winner and set two went to extra points with UTEP capitalizing and winning the set 26-25.
As the two teams continued to duke it out in the third, it was the quality of the Miners that allowed them to pull away in the second half of the set and win 25-19.
Aliyah Sopoaga led the team defensively with 15 digs, a new career high.
The Bengals are back in action next weekend as they head to the Lone Star State to play in the University of Incarnate Word Invite in San Antonio Texas.
