Idaho State Softball heads back to California this week to take on the 2022 Silicon Valley Classic. The Bengals will play five contests over the course of Friday March 11 through Sunday March 13.

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State Softball heads back to California this week to take on the 2022 Silicon Valley Classic. The Bengals will play five contests over the course of Friday March 11 through Sunday March 13.

Bengal Bites

· Haley Rainey threw her first career shutout in a 4-0 win over Boise State and followed it with another shutout performance against Seton Hall

· Haley Rainey was named the Big Sky pitcher of the week on 3/1/2022 after the Bengals 4-3 win over Boise State. This was the first award of her career.

· In the Bengals 11-0 win over Abilene Christian on 2/11, pitcher Emma McMurray recorded her first career shutout and the Bengals had their first mercy-rule win since 2018.

· Both Piper Tago and Isabella Hanson recorded their first NCAA Career home runs during the UTEP Invitational 2/10-12.

· Against Cal State Fullerton on 2/19, Angelica Cano recorded the first walk-off of the season, a solo home run over center with two outs and two strikes.

· The Bengals defeated Boise State 4-3 on 2/25. The Idaho State victory was the first against the Broncos since the 2016 season. Haley Rainey led the Bengals holding the broncos to just three hits and 8 strikeouts

· Skyler Sethman leads the Big Sky with a .500 BA

· Angelica Cano is 4th in the conference a SLG of .721

· Rheanne Lewis is tied for 1st in hits with 20 on the season and 1st in the conference with 2 triples already this season.

· Two Bengal pitchers are sitting top-5 in the conference in ERA. Emma McMurray is 2nd with a 1.87 era and Haley Rainey sits in 5th at 2.51.

· Rainey is 1st in the conference in opposing BA holding opponents to .209 percent and is tied for 1st in strikeouts with 50.

Rachel was born and raised in Pocatello and is now studying for a Master’s degree in Public Administration. Rachel is a student-athlete on both ISU’s Track and Cross-Country teams. When Rachel isn’t running, she enjoys travelling, sleepy Sundays spent working in coffee shops and adventuring in Idaho’s wilderness. Her research interests include sustainable development, environmental policy and public policy theory.
