Aggies Can't Keep Up With the Bengals

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Bengal volleyball team put the finishing touches on their first victory of the season on in the early afternoon on Labor Day, defeating the UC Davis Aggies in four sets, 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-11, 25-23).

In the match the Bengals came out firing on all cylinders, led by junior outside hitter Jamie Streit, who finished with a game-high 15 kills and an attacking percentage of .306, and junior setter Aliyah Sopo'aga, who led both teams in assists with 34 and also finished with 7 kills on an attack percentage of .438.

After the Bengals dropped the second set to tie the match at 1-1, Idaho State sophomore outside hitter, Meline Robarge, locked in and demolished 4 kills in the third to help her team pump out an impressive 25-11 third set victory.

In the fourth set the Bengals and Aggies fought till the very end, but Idaho State would prove to be too much for UC Davis as they closed out the match in the fourth by a score of 25-23.

Junior outside hitter, Sadie Bluth, had 11 kills for Idaho State and Robarge who had four kills alone in the third set finished with 10. The Bengals were everywhere on the defensive end of the floor today as we saw multiple players finish with six or more digs, Asiah Sopo'aga (6), Aliyah Sopo'aga (8), Lily Liekweg (9), Jamie Streit (10), and Sadie Bluth (11). Freshman middle blocker, Jaydin Watts, tied the game-high in blocks with two.

Idaho State will be hosting their own tournament this weekend as the Gonzaga Bulldogs and Utah Valley University Wolverines come to town for a three-day event on September 7th – 9th.
