Cowgirls Can't Keep Up With Bengals

LARAMIE, Wyoming- The Idaho State soccer team wrapped up their match Thursday evening after competing against the University of Wyoming Cowgirls in Laramie, WY. The Bengals defeated the defending Mountain West champs soundly 3-0, earning their first victory on the season, and handing the Cowgirls their first loss this year.

This marks Idaho State's first victory over a Mountain West opponent since they defeated Utah State in 2018, and their first victory over Wyoming since they beat them in back-to-back seasons in 2013 and 2014.

Idaho State opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the match when Mary Za scored off a corner kick from Meagan Tamashiro, giving the Bengals an early lead.

The Bengals closed the opening half in a big way when forward, Kaylyn Buchanan found the back of the net in the 45th minute to give the Bengals a two-goal advantage at the break.

Idaho State picked up right where they left off in the first half, scoring just 23 seconds in to the second half. Buchanan scored another goal off a beautiful free kick from defender, Callie Mullen in the 46th minute, which capped the scoring in the match, 3-0.

In the match we saw goalkeeper, Kelsey Jargstorf, put on a clinic as she made seven saves in a shutout win for the Bengals. Kaylyn Buchanan scored two goals off of two shots on goal and 33 minutes played, Mary Za scored one goal off of one shot on goal in 58 minutes played, Callie Mullen had one assist and played all 90 minutes, and Meagan Tamashiro also had an assist in 44 minutes played.

Idaho State returns home to Davis Field to celebrate their seven seniors this Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. The Bengals host the Colorado State Rams on Sunday, you can stream this match on ESPN+ or follow along live with LiveStats.
