In the second episode of this three-part series, SI host Jodie Schwicht speaks with local fashion designer Cartier Dior Eliasen. Episode two focuses on clothing brands trying to make a difference in the fashion world, the practice of “greenwashing”, and the ethics surrounding faux-animal materials.

The Boston University School of Public Health estimates that each year, people in the United States dispose of over 34 billion pounds of used textiles, amounting to more than 100 pounds of textile waste per person every year. Much of this waste can be attributed to minor damages that can be resolved through mending broken zippers, buttons, and stitching, as well as buying used clothing.

These changes in consumer habits, while minor, can dramatically impact our waste contribution and overall environment.
