Jessica is a PhD student in the Department of Biological Sciences. Her research focuses on the earliest patterns of neural activity that eventually drive breathing. She grew up on a farm in Southern Illinois and was inspired to study animal behavior because of the unique animals and nature that surrounded her (ostriches, emus, llamas, and more!). In Fall 2019, Jessica began to work on a radio series about mental health along with two other biology students and with guidance from Dr. Rhesa Ledbetter. Jessica is excited to participate in this project at KISU since she believes communication is an important skill for scientists to cultivate.

Diaa Hadid chiefly covers Pakistan and Afghanistan for NPR News. She is based in NPR's bureau in Islamabad. There, Hadid and her team were awarded a Murrow in 2019 for hard news for their story on why abortion rates in Pakistan are among the highest in the world.

Sarah McCammon is a National Correspondent covering the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast for NPR. Her work focuses on political, social and cultural divides in America, including abortion and reproductive rights, and the intersections of politics and religion. She's also a frequent guest host for NPR news magazines, podcasts and special coverage.

Tom Gjelten reports on religion, faith, and belief for NPR News, a beat that encompasses such areas as the changing religious landscape in America, the formation of personal identity, the role of religion in politics, and conflict arising from religious differences.
