College of Technology Unveils Exciting High School Career Exploration Summer Courses through Ignite Their Future

The Idaho State University College of Technology is thrilled to announce its lineup of engaging and informative summer courses through Ignite Their Future Summer Programs designed to ignite high school students' passion for STEM fields.

Calling all future innovators, problem-solvers, and tech enthusiasts! Ignite Their Future Summer Programs are open to students entering grades 9 through 12, and will run from June 10 to June 14, 2024.

This year's program boasts exciting new offerings alongside returning favorites:

  • Robotic Revolution: Explore the fascinating world of robotics, from building and programming bots to understanding their real-world applications.
  • Get to Know the Exciting Life of EMS: Discover the world of emergency medical services through simulations and hands-on activities, learning lifesaving skills used by paramedics and EMTs.
  • Intro to Computerized Machining: Gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge CNC machines, learning the fundamentals of computer-aided design and manufacturing.
  • Coding with Introduction to Python Programming: Take the first step into the world of coding by learning the versatile Python language, a valuable skill for future tech careers.
  • Rock the World of Transistor Amplifiers Design: Build a custom amplifier and delve into the world of electronics, understanding the core principles of audio amplification.
  • Custom 3D Printed Bluetooth Speaker Project: Learn how to prototype electronic circuits and construct two innovative projects: a Breadboard Power Supply and a Class D, battery-powered Bluetooth speaker.

This year, the College of Technology is proud to partner with the USDA Forest Service and Excel Technologies. Industry professionals from these organizations will be leading the following specialized courses, offering students a unique glimpse into real-world applications of technology:

  • Artificial Intelligence Overview and Sentiment Analysis: Gain insight into the world of AI and explore how it can be used to analyze and understand human emotions through text.
  • Exploring Emergency Management and Incident Response from a Mobile Perspective: Learn the critical role of mobile technology in managing emergencies and responding to incidents.
  • Unmanned Aerial Systems Mission Planning Overview: Discover the potential of drones (UAS) and explore the steps involved in planning successful drone missions.
  • Cyber Security in the Federal Government: Delve into the world of cybersecurity, understanding the importance of protecting data and systems in government agencies.

Adding to the excitement, students participating in the USDA Forest Service courses will be given the unique opportunity to go on a field trip to the Fort Hall Bottoms — an expansive wetland area known for its rich biodiversity and cultural significance to the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. This unique opportunity will allow them to hear firsthand from Shoshone-Bannock Tribal members and Forest Service employees Randy'L Teton and Travis Stone as they share their inspiring career journeys.
