Why support KISU-FM Public Radio?
Among the many reasons to support KISU-FM:
Gold Standard for Journalism
KISU-FM delivers national and international news that meets the highest standards of journalism, thanks to partnerships with respected organizations such as NPR, BBC, APM, PRX, NV1, and WNYC. Our local news team prioritizes impact over headlines and research over speculation, gathering news and information that matters to our audience. We strive to provide context and clarity on complex issues, ensuring accountability to the communities we serve at every level.
Dedicated Staff, Volunteers, and Campus Support
KISU-FM produces a diverse array of content, including dozens of ongoing radio shows and podcasts, comprehensive local news coverage, live broadcasts of ISU athletics, local features, and exclusive interviews. Much of this content is powered by student and volunteer involvement. Our station enjoys broad support from campus partners, including student groups, ASISU leaders, and nearly every college at Idaho State University. Together, our small but passionate team works tirelessly to provide exceptional public radio programming for all of East Idaho.
Strong Community Partnerships
We collaborate with a wide range of organizations and community groups, including nearly all ISU departments, the Idaho State and Idaho Falls symphonies, Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra, ISU Athletics, ISU Performing Arts, Student Newspaper, Idaho Museum of Natural History, Museum of Idaho, ISU Alumni Association, Frank Church Symposium, Idaho Falls City Club, League of Women Voters of Pocatello, Boise State Public Radio, Mountain West News, Northern Rockies News Service, City Creek Records, the Pocatello Chamber of Commerce, City of Pocatello, Pocatello Free Clinic, Idaho Humanities Council, Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, Alturas Institute, and many more.
Exceptional Student Opportunities
KISU-FM offers valuable internships and employment opportunities for dozens of ISU students each year, spanning fields like science, media/journalism, IT/cybersecurity, music, and athletics. Students’ award-winning work has been a cornerstone of KISU since 1999, supporting our mission to provide real-world broadcasting experience for ISU students. Each year, over 100 students engage in academic experiences at KISU, and more than 100 faculty, staff, and community members participate as guests on our radio shows and podcasts.
Champion for Nonprofits and Educational Organizations
KISU-FM supports local nonprofits, educational entities, and campus organizations by providing more than 8,000 no-cost public service announcements each year—nearly one announcement every hour—valued at approximately $120,000 in donated airtime. In addition, we offer weekly interviews that highlight the events and needs of local charitable and campus groups, helping fuel positive change throughout East Idaho.
Exclusive ISU Athletics Coverage
As the dedicated home of ISU Athletics radio broadcasts, KISU-FM has covered live volleyball, softball, basketball, football, and soccer for the past 25 years. Today, we continue to serve Bengal fans by broadcasting every ISU Football, Men’s Basketball, and Women’s Basketball game. To address scheduling conflicts between men’s and women’s basketball broadcasts, we launched a second live webstream, ensuring complete coverage of every home and away game.
Building Networks and Community
At KISU-FM, we put the “public” in public radio. We foster connections around sustainability, research, community events, student groups, music of all genres, and more. Our local programming shines a light on the meaningful activities, groups, and stories that are often overlooked in commercial media, helping to strengthen and unite our community.
25 Years of Innovation and Service
In celebration of our 25th anniversary, KISU-FM has invested in cutting-edge studio technology to prepare us for the future. These advancements maximize recording space, improve broadcast consistency, and elevate production quality. While automation has reduced the need for routine student tasks, it has expanded opportunities for students to gain invaluable experience and professional development in their chosen fields.
