Bengals Continue Indoor Campaign in Bozeman

POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State Bengals will return to competition this weekend Jan.20, as they travel Bozeman for the Bobcat Challenge #1.

The meet will be held at Worthington Arena in Bozeman, Montana.

The competition will begin Friday at 1:00 p.m. with the men's heptathlon followed by the women's heptathlon at 1:30 p.m. The open flights for pole vault will also take place Friday starting at 2:00 p.m.

Saturday's events will begin with field events at 9:20 a.m. with the men's weight throw. Track events will start at 12:00 p.m. beginning with the women's mile.

This is the first of two meets that the Bengals will travel to Bozeman for.

BYU Cougar Invitational Recap

The Bengals head to Bozeman after a very successful weekend of competition in Provo at the BYU invitational. Both the men's and women's teams had athletes find themselves in the ISU record books with their first place performances.

Kyndal Martin won the 60mH event with a time of 8.77 seconds, her qualifying time of 8.73 seconds landed her with the fifth-fastest mark in ISU history.

Zachary Cox also started his season strong dominating the field and winning the men's 60mH with a time of 7.88 seconds. His time was not only a personal best but is now the second-fastest all-time in ISU history behind only Tanner Connor's record of 7.73 seconds.

In the men's high jump competition Michael Shulikov won the event with a record breaking height of 2.16m (7-01.00). His jump breaks a 43 year-old record set by Rick Berrett in 1980.

In the throws, Sarah Wilensky had the 9th best weight throw in Bengal History, 16.73m (54-10.75) and Axel Tirado Sanchez wrote his name in the record book in the men's shot put, tying the 10th furthest throw all time of 16.99m (55-09).

Up Next

After wrapping up in Bozeman, the Bengals will head home to host their first and only home meet of the indoor season inside Holt Arena for the Stacy Dragila Invitational.

Following the home meet, the Bengals will travel to Spokane, Washington for the Washington State Invitational and then back to Bozeman the following week for the Bobcat Challenge #2.

Bozeman will be their last stop before traveling to Moscow to compete at the BigSky Indoor Championships Feb. 23 - Feb. 25.
