Bengals Drop Final Two Games of Lancers Invite

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State Bengals dropped the final two games of the 2024 CBU Lancers Invite Sunday morning in Riverside, Calif.

The Bengals (12-9) fell 6-1 to St. John's and then 2-1 to Cal Poly University.

In game one, the Bengals took an early lead in the top of the first. Gracie Smith reached on a walk and was able to advance to third after an Alyssa Yee single. Angelica Cano then reached on a fielders choice allowing Smith to score and put the Bengals up 1-0.

The next three innings, the Bengal defense held strong with Riley Wickum in the circle only allowing one hit from SJU.

The fourth saw an offensive explosion from SJU as they scored six run in the inning to open up the game and take a 6-1 lead over ISU.

Over the next three innings, the Bengals were able to place multiple runners on, but the ISU offense stalled out each inning and the game ended with the 6-1 SJU win.

Game two was a back-and-forth battle between the Bengals and Mustangs.

Cal Poly was able to take a quick 2-0 lead in the second.

Idaho State's offense was unable to gain momentum until the fifth inning when, after loading the bases, Cal Poly walked Jenna Kearns and the Bengals cut the lead to 2-1.

Again, in the final two innings, the Bengals had offensive opportunities but were unable to capitalize and the Mustangs took the 2-1 victory over the Bengals.
