Bengals Close Out Boise Tournament with 2-1 Win over St. Thomas

POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State softball closed out the City of Trees Classic in Boise, Idaho with a 2-1 win over St. Thomas Saturday afternoon.

The Bengals improve to 16-13 on the year with six more non-conference games to go before the start to Big Sky play.

The St. Thomas Tommies opened the weekend with a 5-3 win over the Orange and Black and the Bengals went into the game looking to get the bounce back win.

Idaho State started the game off striking first in the bottom of the first. Alyssa Yee Singled down the middle, following after, Angelica Cano singled up the middle and Yee turned on the gas and scored the first run of the game.

The Tommies were able to tie the game in the top of the 2nd and sitting at 1-1 became a defensive battle for the following three innings.

Marley Goluskin pitching for the Bengals only allowed one hit in the following innings as she led the Bengals lock-down defense.

In the bottom of the fifth, Alyssa Yee again stepped up to the plate and took her first pitch over the right field wall for her fourth home run of the season, giving the Bengals a 2-1 lead. 4

Goluskin ended the game with the 7 inning pitched win allowing five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Goluskin moves to 5-4 on the year pitching for the Bengals.

The Bengals stepped up in the next two innings, going three up three down in the sixth and seventh to close out the game and the Bengals' 2-1 victory.

Idaho State is back in action for a midweek contest with Utah State on March 19 in Logan, Utah. First Pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM MT.
