The Idaho State Bengals are back from their bye week and ready to begin Big Sky Conference play on the road at Southern Utah.
In this edition of the Idaho State Coaches Show, head football coach Cody Hawkins joins the program to discuss the team’s preparation, player development, and the challenges awaiting the Bengals in Cedar City. Hawkins talks about using the bye week to help the roster recover while giving younger players valuable practice reps. He also reflects on the season-ending injury to quarterback Wyatt Horton and the depth developing in the quarterback room.
Coach Hawkins previews a Southern Utah team known for its physical, run-first style under head coach DeLane Fitzgerald. The conversation covers the Thunderbirds’ dangerous rushing attack led by Floyd Shock, quarterback Will Burns’ ability to create explosive plays, the challenge of Southern Utah’s defensive fronts, and the lessons Idaho State has taken from last season’s matchup.
Later, cornerbacks coach Devin Holiday joins the show to discuss the Bengals’ secondary and the development of the program’s young defensive backs.
The Idaho State Coaches Show is recorded Thursdays at the Union Tap Room in Old Town Pocatello and is available through KISU, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
