House Rescission Vote Expected In The Coming Days; Deadline Set

Dear KISU Listeners ,

The House Committee on Rules is scheduled to consider the rescission proposal tomorrow, June 10, at 2:00 p.m. ET. We do not expect the committee to allow amendments. A vote on the House Floor is expected as early as Wednesday.

The Senate Parliamentarian has ruled that Congress must act on the rescission request, which includes public media funding, by July 18. Barring any changes to the Congressional schedule, the 45-day clock will expire at midnight on that date.

This morning, Politico reported that 10 moderate House Republicans have privately said they currently oppose the legislation – a critical sign that pressure is working.

With the House vote fast approaching, we’re continuing to stress the importance of calling House offices to ensure lawmakers understand how much their constituents value public media.

Our grassroots support thus far has been very encouraging – nearly 345,000 emails and more than 18,000 calls have been delivered to lawmakers in less than a week, but we must maintain momentum.

We’re doubling down – sending urgent reminders to our advocate network, and deploying targeted messaging in key Republican-held districts where constituent outreach has the potential to influence the outcome of this vote.

As a reminder, we rolled out several new station resources about the rescission in our Partner Portal (password is welcome), including social media scripts, graphics, newsletter summaries, on-air scripts, and more. The .PSD files for the new social media graphics are also now available and are fully editable.

Ahead of this vote, please continue to urge your audiences to contact Congress, especially by making calls. These resources are helpful tools to amplify this message.

As another reminder, please do not fundraise specifically on this threat, especially leading up to the vote. Please do communicate how your community would be impacted if federal funding is clawed back.

Thank you for all you are doing. We will be back in touch once we know when the House vote is scheduled, either tomorrow evening or Wednesday morning.

With gratitude,
The Protect My Public Media Team
