Kandi J. Turley-Ames, Ph.D.
Host of ISU Impact: Engaging With The College of Arts and LettersKandi Turley-Ames began her journey at Idaho State University by graduating from ISU with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1990 and a Master of Science in Psychology in 1993. She completed her Ph.D. in Psychology at Washington State University in 1996. She is a graduate of the Higher Education Resource Service for women in higher education administration. Her academic area of expertise includes memory and cognition. She has published numerous papers with colleagues and students on how strategies impact memory and higher cognitive abilities.
Dean Turley-Ames has been a faculty member of the Department of Psychology since 1997 and has subsequently served the University in numerous leadership positions. She was appointed Chairperson of Psychology from 2003-2009. She served as the Interim Assistant Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences in 2007-2008 and as Associate Vice President in Academic Affairs in 2009-2010. Currently, she is the Founding Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, Vice Provost for Advanced Opportunities, and Professor of Psychology.
Dean Turley-Ames was acknowledged as a Master Teacher at ISU in 2001-2002 and 2005-2006. She was the recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award in 2006-2007. In 2007-2008 she was nominated for the US Professor of the Year. Many of her undergraduate and graduate students have earned their doctorates and contribute significantly to the study of memory and cognitive processes.
Dean Turley-Ames is passionate about student learning, engaging in collaborative research with students at all levels, and now, most importantly, the growth and success of the College of Arts and Letters.
