Bengal Business Radio: Greg Murphy on Student Success and the Future of ISU’s College of Business

On this episode of the Bengal Business Radio Show, host Alex Bollinger welcomes Dr. Greg Murphy, interim dean and professor of management at Idaho State University’s College of Business. Murphy shares his journey from Army aviation to higher education and reflects on the supportive, student-focused culture that brought him to ISU in 2008, and has kept him there ever since.

Their conversation explores how the college connects classroom learning with professional experience through student consulting projects, career preparation, international business experiences, and partnerships that support local businesses. They also discuss growing opportunities in data analytics and project management, along with the importance of helping students use artificial intelligence effectively while developing strong teamwork and leadership skills.

As the college prepares for its next accreditation review, Murphy explains how that process supports educational quality and continuous improvement. He also looks ahead to integrating new programs, supporting faculty-led innovation, and building on the college’s longstanding commitment to students and the wider community.

Alex Bolinger is the Interim Dean and ICCU Endowed Professor of Management at Idaho State University’s College of Business. He earned his PhD in Management at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah and began his career outside of Philadelphia at Penn State Brandywine. Dr. Bolinger’s research focuses on groups and teams, entrepreneurship, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and opportunities for improving people’s experiences at work.
