Inspiring Educators welcomes Dexter Gunter and Bob Myers

Host Dean Jean McGivney-Burelle meets with guests that include scholarship donor and ISU alumnus Bob Myers in addition to Dexter Gunter, the first recipient of Myers’ endowed scholarship, the Dr. Robert Myers & Mrs. Lavoy Riley scholarship. Bob, a former educator and administrator for school district 25, reflects on his motivations for teaching, administration, and projects he was able to complete like the Dual-Enrollment Credit program utilized in high school that allows students to earn college credit. Moreover, he expresses his gratitude for the individuals in his life that mentored and guided him, while stressing the value of endowing a scholarship. Dexter, an ISU alumnus that is now a math teacher and coach for Pocatello High School discusses the impact the scholarship made along with his journey to becoming an educator and coach.

Jean McGivney-Burelle joined Idaho State University in June of 2020 as Professor and Dean of the College of Education. Jean has more than two decades of experience in higher education. Her scholarly work is focused on the teaching and learning of mathematics and she has served as PI or Co-PI on STEM education grants totaling more than $2 million. Jean is a Mathematical Association of America Project NExT Fellow, a National Network for Educational Renewal Fellow, and a participant in the 2016-17 HERS Leadership Institute. She holds a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Hartford, an M.S. in Mathematics from Northeastern University, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Connecticut.
