ISU’s Laurie Holien discusses homeland security and emergency services training that protects U.S. national security interests nationwide. She describes how students in ISU’s online program learn from national experts and faculty from across the country. Graduates of ISU’s programs have leadership roles in FEMA, state and local governments.

Laurie Holien is a Clinical Professor and the Director of the Homeland Security and Emergency Management degree programs at Idaho State University. She is the incoming director of ISU’s Institute for Emergency Management. Professor Holien is an experienced emergency manager and strategic advisor, with over 20 years of crisis management and physical security experience, including 12 years working for critical infrastructure and combined utility providers.

Prior to working in academics, Holien was the Deputy Director of the Oregon Emergency Management Agency, where she shined as an expert in public policy, disaster management, strategic planning, and managed regulatory compliance requirements. She is a skilled researcher and facilitator bringing together partners across interdisciplinary backgrounds.

Holien’s graduate research from the Naval Postgraduate School was centered around optimizing operational decisions during disasters through use of social media. Her current research interests include the intersection between public health and emergency management, critical infrastructure resilience, and systems thinking in the homeland security enterprise.

Martin Blair joined Idaho State University in 2022 as the Vice President for Research and Economic Development. Dr. Blair began his career as a special education teacher. Then, spent two decades at the Utah State University Center for Excellence in Disabilities in a variety of research and training leadership roles. In 2013, he moved to Missoula, Montana where he spent nine years directing the University of Montana Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities. In these various roles, Dr. Blair has worked extensively across the U.S. to improve the quality of services, supports and policies for individuals with disabilities of all ages, and their families. <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-e-blair/">https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-e-blair/</a><br/>
