Joe describes the familial challenges he endured growing up in a mixed Mexican/ American Indian family of immigrant farm workers who rallied behind equal worker rights with activist Cesar Chavez. Joe carried his family’s hard working heritage into the special forces where he fought alongside coalition forces to defend Liberty and Freedom in Afghanistan. After sustaining life threatening injuries from a suicide bomber attack, Joe experienced fear, depression, PTSD, and Substance Use Disorder with Alcohol which cost him his happiness.
