Host Jon Armstrong is thrilled to invite the band Khorvai to talk about their new album Acheron, available streaming everywhere.
Khorvai is a duo, consisting of Rowen Keith and Jake Roecker. Rowen mainly plays guitar and Jake mainly plays drums, but as we discuss in the episode, both are sound explorers and multi-instrumentalists, which was key the creation of such a sonically rich album.
Acheron can be described succinctly as a noise/metal album, but it contains multitudes. There are deep layers of sounds that shimmer, float, and crash, serving as a brilliant textured canvas for the massive guitar riffs, drum grooves, and soaring melodies throughout the record. In our interview, we discuss all the innovations born from experimentations that Rowen and Jake did in a bedroom in Boise over the summer to create this aural stew.
Both Rowen and Jake are students in the ISU Commercial Music program, and I’ve been fully aware of their tremendous musicianship working with them in our ensembles. Still, Acheron, took me by surprise, and knocked me flat. Listening through the album was a revelation as Khorvai created one of those rare recordings where the music pours out of the speakers or the headphones and envelops you. Even if noise/metal isn’t your thing, I highly recommend checking out this episode, buying the album, and turning the volume up to loud
Long live Khorvai
