Jenna Kearns Named Louisville Slugger / NFCA National Player of the Week

Jenna Kearns has been named the Louisville Slugger / NFCA National Player of the Week for her performances against Utah Valley University and the University of Montana this past weekend.

“This is a huge honor for Jenna and for the program,” remarked Head Coach Andrew Rich She was great last week both at the plate and behind the plate defensively. It’s awesome to see a Pocatello kid representing Idaho State in the biggest way.”

This is just the second time in program history a Bengal has earned the National nod. Kearns joins Kacie Burnett in 2015 as a recipient of the award.

Kearns had one of the most dominant weeks of softball in Idaho State history with a win over Utah Valley and a series sweep of the University of Montana.

Kearns, in four games, finished with a .643 batting average, hitting nine-of-14. in those nine hits, six were for extra bases, three doubles and three home runs.

Kearns scored 13 RBIs and had 21 total bases on the week for a mind-blowing 1.500 SLG percentage. On the base paths, Kearns stole two-of-two bases and was a perfect 1.000 defensively with 13 putouts and an assist.

In game one of the Bengals' sweep of Montana, Kearns scored seven RBIs, tying the Big Sky single-game record with a grand slam and a three-run home run.
