Anna Grinath
Dr. Anna Grinath is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Idaho State University (ISU), where she leads the Biology Learning and Teaching lab. Her research focuses on postsecondary biology education, focusing on how undergraduates use science to learn and gain confidence. Before joining ISU in 2019, she served as an Assistant Professor at Middle Tennessee State University.
Dr. Grinath holds a Ph.D. in Science Education and an M.S. in Biological Science from Florida State University, as well as a B.A. in Biological Science from Middlebury College. Her biological research background includes marine biology studies on filter-feeding coral reef sponges in Panama, Belize, Curacao, the Florida Keys, and Australia. Outside of her academic work, she enjoys hiking, fishing, kayaking, scuba diving, pottery, and traveling.
Calista Marie Gresick
Calista Marie Gresick is a Ph.D. candidate in Biology with a minor in Biology Education Research at Idaho State University, holding an M.S. in Biology from Walla Walla University and a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Wyoming. Prior to joining ISU in 2024, she taught post-secondary biological sciences across several institutions. Her background includes immunology research focused on vimentin transport in cancer cells and characterization of novel monoclonal antibodies.
Her current research investigates novice students' sense of belonging in science by examining their contributions across introductory courses, seminars, and Course-Based Research Experiences. Her work aims to provide actionable insight and practical guidance for educators looking to foster inclusive classroom environments. Outside of academia, Calista enjoys traveling, kayaking, languages, drawing, music, and spending time with her dog.
