Episode 8: “988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline” with Dr. Ben Miller

Dr. Ben Miller is a nationally recognized mental health expert and a highly sought-after public speaker. Dr. Miller has presented around the world on the need to make mental health an integral part of health care, most recently testifying before the Senate Committee on Finance about the need for an integrated approach to treating mental health and addiction He is also the author of the weekly newsletter – Mental: Fighting the fragmentation of mental health one policy at a time, where hundreds of subscribers gather to read about how everyday happenings are connected to mental health, and what actions they can take to address them.

In this episode, Dr. Miller and I discuss the new 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and the far reaching benefits it will have on the growing national mental health concerns in the Military Veteran community today. Dr. Miller discusses how his Nonprofit, Well Being Trust is spearheading the fight for improvement on systems of care, coverage, community conditions across the national mental healthcare landscape. Dr. Miller shares his relevant mission, vision, and overarching goals to save lives through restoring loving kindness, compassion, dignity, respect, inclusion, equity of opportunity, and social justice.

Dan Miller is using his Military Veteran benefits to complete a graduate program at Idaho State University. Dan served gallantly as a Navy Hospital Corpsman in the Fleet Marine Forces. After his honorable discharge, Dan found himself redefined as a Veteran who battled with PTSD, alcoholism, substance abuse, and addiction. Dan found strength in Recovery, enjoys a life worth living, and is pursuing his MBA in Project Management.
