Sal Gonzalez was born and raised in East Los Angeles, California, where he kept himself out of trouble by playing music and working at the family restaurant in his spare time. Inspired by the events of 9/11, Sal joined the United States Marine Corps infantry right out of high school. But in 2004, while serving as a machine gunner in Iraq, Sal was wounded. When he came home, Wounded Warrior Project met him at his hospital bedside and helped him realize anything was still possible. He’s turned that concept into a career that spans his two greatest passions, music and helping other warriors. Today, Sal lives in Nashville, Tennessee, where he writes and performs music. He has appeared on “America’s Got Talent” and the TV show “Nashville,” and he released his first EP “Heroes” in 2020. When he’s not playing music, Sal can usually be found helping other wounded warriors by sharing his story and teaching them that they, too, can still achieve their dreams.
